The remote Atlantic outpost of Isla Vento has become the center of a sudden territorial dispute after new surveys revealed hidden mineral deposits beneath its surrounding seabed. Spain, which has loosely administered the island for decades, quickly moved in engineers and a small security detachment to reactivate old infrastructure before anyone else could stake a claim.
France responded within hours, arguing that the island falls under an unresolved joint-access treaty and deployed airborne and mechanised elements to “secure their interests.” With diplomacy collapsing and both militaries rush to capture the narrow central valley, night operations have begun to decide who will control Isla Vento before the wider world takes notice.
